Why Rebounding Is My New Favorite Workout
/As a child, I used to love jumping on trampolines with my friends. I mean, who doesn’t love them? They’re so fun! To tap back into that nostalgia, I recently started using a rebounder (aka a small trampoline) as part of my fitness routine, and wow, it’s amazing! And yes, if you’re wondering, it can definitely be a tough workout.
Besides being a full-body toner, rebounding on a trampoline has a ton of benefits for your mental and physical health. For me, it’s also brought some much-needed fun and energy back into my fitness routine.
Here are a few reasons why you should try rebounding!
1. Rebounding is great for stress relief
Like other forms of exercise (cough, cough, walking…join the Walking Challenge starting April 30), rebounding gets your circulation going and fires up your endorphins. It can also release tension in the body and get you out of your head. This is key for anyone who has high stress or anxiety levels.
2. Rebounding can help you build strength
Rebounding is a low-impact exercise that supports bone strength, bone density (which I’ve talked about before, it’s so important), and bone formation. Plus, because the rebounder creates an “unstable” environment that you have to balance on, it engages your abdominals, legs, glutes, and lower back muscles. So, you can strengthen your muscles and bones at the same time. Count me in!
3. Rebounding supports and strengthens your pelvic floor
Another part of your body rebounding can strengthen is your pelvic floor. (I know, I was surprised to hear it too!) Jumping on a rebounder requires you to pull your body up each time you jump, which challenges your pelvic floor muscles. Given how many women struggle with urinary incontinence, this is fantastic news. Not to mention, a strong pelvic floor makes for a healthy and enjoyable sex life!
4. Rebounding can help you train and maintain your balance
Rebounding also puts your balance to the test, which is increasingly important as we age. We need good balance for nearly every movement we do on a daily basis, including walking, standing up, climbing stairs, and bending down.
5. Seriously—rebounding is so much fun!
I’ve yet to find a person who doesn’t think jumping on a trampoline is really, really fun. If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy or look forward to working out, I highly recommend trying rebounding. You’re more likely to stick with an activity you love, and consistency is the most important part of a fitness routine. Plus, rebounding makes me feel young again! Within minutes I feel like a kid again.
I hope you’ll give rebounding a try! If you’re in NYC, you can take a class at The Ness or Carve It, or if you prefer to rebound at home, check out TrampoLEAN’s online classes. There are tons of trampolines out there for every budget.
In the meantime, the Walking Challenge starts this Saturday, April 30. If you haven’t already, make sure to join our Private PJW Facebook Group and follow @purejoywellness on Instagram!
