Pure Joy Wellness Approved! Theragun
/Hi all! It’s time for this month’s Pure Joy Wellness Approved—our eighth edition!
If you’re new here, allow me to explain what Pure Joy Wellness Approved is:
The wellness industry is saturated with products. (It’s a multi-trillion dollar industry, after all.) My goal with this series, Pure Joy Wellness Approved, is to help you cut through the noise, and give you insight into the items and brands that I use on a regular basis. Every month, I’ll be featuring a product I love that can make achieving your health goals easier—whether you want to lose weight, take better care of your skin, develop an exercise routine, find balance with your nutrition, or improve your mental health, to name a few.
As many of you know, we’re almost done with the Pure Joy Wellness Walking Challenge! 30 days of 30 minutes or more of walking. I’m so impressed with and proud of all of you who are participating—you’ve been killing it! I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have, and are ready to finish the challenge out strong.
In honor of the Walking Challenge, I wanted to share one of my favorite recovery products with you…
Theragun products have surged in popularity over the last five years, so you may have heard of them before. The Theragun is essentially a percussive, therapeutic massage gun. It’s used after intense workouts, and has been shown to help reduce delayed muscle onset soreness by increasing blood circulation to your muscles. It’s essentially a portable massage chair that you can massage nearly any muscle!
In case you need more convincing (they had me at massage), here are my top reasons for investing in a Theragun.
Why I Love This Product
It helps work out muscle tension, kinks, and helps soothe muscle soreness.
Massage guns are known for their ability to relieve tension and knots in our muscles. The benefits are similar to that of foam rolling and sports massages. The Theragun promotes the circulation of blood into our muscles, which can help speed up recovery and muscle tissue repair. If you’re someone who tends to get sore or tight muscles, you can use a Theragun to ease your soreness and break up any stiffness you’re feeling. When it comes to recovery products that actually work (i.e. they deliver on the claims they make), I put my Theragun at the top of the list.
It’s convenient and doesn’t take much time.
Imagine having access to a muscle massage whenever you want one, without having to book an appointment or continuously pay a large fee. That’s basically what having a Theragun is like. For me, it’s easier and more convenient (and cost effective) to use a Theragun than it is to foam roll or seek out a massage after every workout. To do a full body session (use it on all the muscle groups that I can), it takes less than 15 minutes total. Given that I’m a very time-conscious person, it’s the perfect tool for me. Just click it on, use it, and put it away after.
Now, none of this is to say that Theraguns aren’t expensive, because they are. The Theragun Prime—their most pared down model—is $300 (they do offer financing). The mini portable version will run you $200, and if you want an upgraded model, you’re looking at $400 to $600. I personally think the Prime does the job just fine, and there’s no need to splurge more if you don’t want to. I use my Theragun every day, even when I don’t work out, and I can tell you it pays for itself in no time.
It can be used on the majority of muscle groups!
While I primarily use my Theragun on my quads (leg day, am I right?), it can be used on pretty much any muscle, from your shoulders and neck to your chest, lower back, and forearms. I love to use my Theragun to target my walking muscles, like my quads, calves, hamstrings, hip flexor, IT band, and even my feet. (Yes, you can use it on the bottom of your feet, like a deep tissue foot massage!)
Theragun has a user guide that shows you how to use it on certain areas of your body, so I recommend checking that out if you decide to get your own.
You can get a Theragun through their website or on Amazon. If you end up getting one, let me know what you think on our Private Pure Joy Wellness Facebook Group! I’d love to hear your thoughts, and answer any questions you may have.
xo,
Renata
