These Are The 7 Types Of Rest You Need

These Are The 7 Types Of Rest You Need

I wouldn’t say that I’ve always been a “well-rested” person. Historically I’ve had trouble getting enough sleep (I’m usually up very early for that reason), and whenever I’ve felt tired or burnt out, I assumed it was because I wasn’t sleeping. That was until I came across the work of Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, a physician, researcher, author, and speaker, who has worked in internal medicine for 20 years.

In her book, Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity, she talks about the seven different types of rest we need to live healthy and fulfilled lives while decreasing stress, fatigue, and feelings of burnout. I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Dalton-Smith.

What Happens To Your Hair During Menopause

What Happens To Your Hair During Menopause

If you've gone through menopause or are dealing with it now, you know that it comes with plenty of body changes—our skin, sleep patterns, body composition, you name it. But one lesser known side effect of menopause is hair changes—like hair loss, hair thinning, changes in texture, dryness, dullness, and even scalp sensitivity. This is because of the major hormone shift our bodies experience before, during, and after menopause.

I talked about menopausal hair loss a bit a few blog posts ago, when I recommended the Nutrafol supplement, but I wanted to elaborate on the changes our hair can undergo and tell you about the options you have.

How To Know If You're Dehydrated (And What To Do)

How To Know If You're Dehydrated (And What To Do)

Now that summer is here, the days are getting hotter and hotter. And because of that, I feel compelled to talk about dehydration. I’ve written ad nauseum about how important it is to stay hydrated—for better skin, weight maintenance, and overall better health—but we don’t talk enough about dehydration.

Dehydration, defined as when you use or lose more fluid than you take in, can lead to serious symptoms and health issues, like heat injury, urinary or kidney problems, low blood volume shock, and even seizures. In the warmer summer months (when we’re more likely to sweat), we’re more prone to dehydration and have to be more conscious about our fluid intake. We can’t wait until we feel thirsty to have a drink or hydrate—by then, we’re already dehydrated.

You may be thinking: “But isn’t the point of a vacation to take a break from real life?” And trust me, I get that. How Worrying About Your Age Could Be Holding You Back

How Worrying About Your Age Could Be Holding You Back

turned 65 a mere four months ago—an age that a lot of women dread. Despite all the preconceived notions of how I thought I would feel about it, I have to admit, I feel better than ever! That might sound like I am just saying some feel good bullshit, but I promise it’s the truth.

I have worried about my age at certain points in the past, many years ago. Now, I rarely think about age unless someone else brings it up. A recent conversation got me thinking a lot about how much people—particularly women—worry about their age, and how much that can hold you back from being as happy as possible.

How To ACTUALLY Stay Hydrated: 3 Things You Can Do Right Now!

How To ACTUALLY Stay Hydrated: 3 Things You Can Do Right Now!

It probably won’t shock you to hear that hydration is VERY essential to your health. We’re always told to drink more water, and for good reason—we literally cannot survive without it. Our bodies use water for everything: from lubricating our joints and regulating our body temperature, to aiding our digestion and ridding our bodies of toxins. About 60 percent of our body weight is water, and since we’re constantly losing it (through urinating, sweating, talking, etc.), we need to be conscious of and vigilant about refilling our water stores throughout the day.

Now, I understand that drinking water isn’t exactly what I’d call “exciting.” Many people find it a laborious task, and because of that, their health tends to suffer. Thankfully, chugging water isn’t the only way (or even the best way) to keep yourself hydrated.
